Learning About Podiatry

Hi everyone, my name is Felix. Welcome to my site about podiatry. When I was regularly running marathons, I would come home with severe damage to my feet. All of the soaking and rubbing did not help my feet heal fast enough. By the time I had to go back to work, I was still hobbling around on the outside of my soles. Luckily, a friend directed me to a highly respected podiatrist in my area. With my doctor’s help, I healed quickly and prevented future foot pain. My site will cover all of the ways podiatrists can help you protect and restore your feet. Thank you for visiting my site.

Thinking Highly Of Yourself: Selecting Shoes When You Have High Arches

Having high arched feet can be a blessing and a curse. Those who have flat feet may have issues with walking or jogging that you do not. One the other hand, you may have issues in your heels due to plantar fasciitis if you have high arches. Those who have high arches also have to be careful of the shoes that they select. Well-arched feet mean that wearing flip flops and flat sandals is likely to hurt. Here are some things to keep in mind when you select shoes that have high arches.

Ensure that the shoe pads offer support

One of the ways that you will hurt your feet when you have an arch is wearing shoes that are completely flat and have no padding. Shoes such as flat sandals will often not work when you have high arches. You should instead look for shoes that have some padding and plenty of arch support. Instead of flat walking shoes, look for shoes that have good padding. Put your hand inside of the shoe and press down on the interior sole. You should feel cushion when you do this for shoes that have proper padding.

Find arched inserts

It is not likely that you will find many shoes that cater specifically to your foot arch. If you have a high arch, you should find shoe inserts that you can put inside of shoes to support your arches. This will keep you from feeling any pain in your arch and in the heel of your foot. Be sure to get arched inserts that you are able to stick inside of dress shoes, sneakers, and even some types of sandals. Being able to use inserts will open up the type of shoes that you can wear on your fancy days out.

Stay away from the high heels

If you are a lady who loves her high heels, you should make sure to keep the height of the heels against the platform low. If the heels are four-inch heels with no platform, you may be overextending your arch and heel, which will lead to some heavy pain. Instead, select shoes with heels that are lower so that the front of the show has the appropriate slope to support your arch. When you are heel shopping, remember to bring your inserts with you so that you can determine if standing and moving in the heel will be comfortable and won't cause issues for your plantar fasciitis.
